HOW IT ALL BEGAN...
The idea of B'ville Riptide began in the spring of 2022 when I coached the Baldwinsville Little League A's Jr/Sr team, which won both the divisional and championship playoffs. Some of the boys asked if I'd coach again and they came up with the idea of Riptide -- a supplemental baseball program, where they can play with friends and it's all about them... they're the leaders/captains/players. As soon as I said yes to overseeing a team that fall, two of the then-14-year-old boys, Tommy Padalino and Anderson Tuten, got to work, creating what we now know as B'ville Riptide. They called their friends Jacob and Sam Stock, and sat at my kitchen table brainstorming names and sketching images of what their uniforms would look like. Together, they turned their vision into a reality and formed a bond with friends that will last a lifetime. Their goal was simply to have fun and play baseball with friends, but Riptide has had an even larger impact on the community. Others saw what they were doing and asked to be part of Riptide. What began as one 14u team of some friends has grown into something more than any of us could have ever imagined. Any Baldwinsville youth who wanted to learn to play baseball, no matter what his/her skill level, could come learn, practice and improve their skills. After that first season of playing together, every single player on the inaugural Riptide 14u team made a school baseball team. Today, several still play together and even help coach others to give back and continue their legacy. The goal today is still the same as when we began: to have fun and play more baseball, while keeping it affordable for families too. We now have youth baseball teams ranging from 8u to 18u, as well as a new 12u softball team added just this year. We have experienced coaches at every age level who volunteer their time so kids can practice, and play in tournaments, games and indoor leagues. In December 2022, our application for 501(c)3 nonprofit status was approved by the federal government. Our nonprofit organization, Riptide Sports, strives to make baseball and softball fun and affordable for all youth. All donations collected go directly back to the teams to make it more affordable to play ball. I am grateful for the support of all the parents, community, and kids who have helped make this happen. I am also proud of those boys whose enthusiasm and love for baseball got us started so other kids in their community could have the same opportunity. Let's go Riptide! - Coach Catie
